A View Of The Old Sanctuary And Pulpit Area
This area had remained largely unchanged for as long as anyone can remember. There were large gaps between the boards in the floor
through which came a cold
draught in the winter months
.
The covered baptistery is between the front pew and the pulpit area.
Note the old organ to the right of the picture. We were unable to
dispose of this ourselves and it is now held in store by an organisation
specialising in 'historic' organs.
The Planning Authorities insisted that we retained as much as possible
of the wrought iron balustrade on the rostrum and this was incorporated
into the new platform structure.
They also insisted some pews were retained and these were later relocated in the new balcony area.
